From Functional Freeze to Full Aliveness: How Breathwork Changed Everything

For most of my twenties, I lived in what I now understand as a functional freeze state.

On the outside, everything looked fine. I could work, socialise, show up, and tick all the boxes of a “normal” life. To friends and family, I seemed okay….capable, even successful at times.

But internally, it was a very different story.

I felt emotionally numb. Beneath the surface, there was a constant low-level hum of dread and anxiety. I was disconnected from myself , dissociated, wired, and exhausted all at once. It was like my nervous system was stuck in overdrive, yet I had no real access to energy, joy, or clarity.

I didn’t truly know who I was or what I needed.

Most of the time, it felt like I wasn’t living in my body. It was more like I was observing my life from a distance.

The Slow Descent Into Burnout and Depression

Over time, that disconnection took its toll.

What started as numbness gradually turned into heaviness. Then emptiness. Then deep exhaustion.

Eventually, I lost the desire to engage with life altogether. Socialising felt draining. Motivation disappeared. I began to withdraw more and more.

That’s when depression set in.

Like many people navigating high-functioning anxiety and burnout, I found ways to cope. Yoga, meditation, and travel became anchors, and they helped. They gave me moments of relief, space to breathe, and glimpses of something more.

But something was still missing.

Despite all the “right” practices, I still felt disconnected from my body and my deeper truth.

Discovering Breathwork: A Turning Point

Three years after my initial diagnosis of depression, I discovered breathwork, and everything began to shift.

At first, I didn’t fully understand what was happening.

But I felt it.

Breathwork wasn’t just relaxing, it was revealing. It opened doors within me that I didn’t even know existed.

It brought insight. Emotional release. Creativity. Clarity.

And it also brought challenge.

Because when you begin to reconnect with your body, you don’t just access the light, you meet the parts of yourself you’ve been avoiding.

There were moments where I had to face uncomfortable truths. Patterns. Decisions I had been postponing. Misalignments in how I was living my life.

Breathwork didn’t allow me to hide anymore.

And that was the gift.

The Work That Changes Everything

This is where real transformation begins, and it’s why breathwork is so powerful for high achievers, creatives, parents, leaders, and those who are ready for deep change.

Breathwork goes beyond mindset.

It works directly with the nervous system, the place where stress, trauma, and patterns are stored.

It helps you:

  • Regulate chronic anxiety and overwhelm

  • Reconnect with your body and emotional intelligence

  • Release suppressed emotions safely

  • Access clarity and aligned decision-making

  • Move out of survival mode into true presence

But more than anything, it invites you into honesty.

And honesty is what creates lasting transformation.

A Sustainable, Powerful Practice

To this day, breathwork is a core part of my life.

Not in an extreme or overwhelming way.

I don’t believe transformation needs to be dramatic or forceful.

My practice is simple:
Combining the breath with presence, and allowing the body to do what it needs.

That’s where the intelligence lies… not in controlling the process, but in trusting it.

Why Breathwork Is the Missing Piece for High Performers, High Achievers, and Those Living a High Pressure Life

Many of the clients I now work with are high-achieving, driven individuals who, on paper, have everything together.

Yet internally, they often feel:

  • Disconnected

  • Stressed or overwhelmed

  • Stuck in cycles of overthinking

  • Unable to fully relax or switch off

  • Out of alignment with their deeper purpose

Sound familiar?

This is the modern nervous system challenge.

And it’s exactly where breathwork becomes not just helpful, but essential.

An Invitation Into Deeper Work

Breathwork isn’t a quick fix.

It’s a powerful, embodied pathway back to yourself.

It asks for your presence. Your willingness. Your honesty.

But in return, it offers something most people spend their entire lives searching for:

A felt sense of being fully alive, grounded, and aligned.

If you’re ready to move beyond surface-level solutions and step into deeper transformation, breathwork may be the work you’ve been looking for.
