Breathwork & Travel…. Purpose & Passion

I’ve never owned a car. Never owned a house. Never built the family that was handed to me as the blueprint.

Instead I was gifted with an insatiable love of travel and a passion and purpose in Breathwork.

Travel and Breathwork give me access to the same things….

A deeper understanding of myself in relation to the world.

A more connected relationship with myself.

A chosen international family who understand me, celebrate me, inspire me.

An ongoing renewed energy and lust for life.

A deeper connection to my fellow humans.

Enhanced creativity and resourcefulness.

Flexibility and resilience.

Explorations outside of my comfort zone.

A lot of joy.

I used to question if I was running away through travel. Now I understand it’s the opposite. It’s how I face myself again and again. How I keep expanding, keep discovering new layers. And just as integration is absolutely needed and necessary after a breathwork journey, it is also needed and necessary after a period of travel. To feel at home somewhere. To ground, settle and contain.

Solo travel isn’t always easy. Delays, fatigue, language barriers, lost luggage, long stretches of waiting with nothing but yourself for company. It shows you your own patterns and conditioning fast, especially somewhere the culture and values look nothing like your own. Every moment becomes a choice to stay calm, open, compassionate.

But the people. The faces. The pain, the preferences, the triumphs and despair, all of it right there in front of you. Philosophical conversations with taxi drivers. Non-verbal communication with someone who doesn’t speak my language. Supporting a Breathwork session without a single shared word, or with the help of a translator. Connecting with a stranger beside me on a 12 hour flight, a whole life traded in stories, never to be seen again, yet the impression lasts forever.

I was 19 yrs old on a flight to Rotterdam, sitting next to a man named Claudio, a conservationist who worked with Komodo dragons. 28 years later I still remember him. A man who followed his passion. A man who planted a seed of inspiration. A reminder that travel becomes even more beautiful when we can help others along the way with our tools and skills.

Land affects me energetically too. Every place carries its own frequency. Some energising, some dense. Land holds the trauma imprint and history the same way we do. I travel to feel a place and learn myself in response to that place. To see what it can teach me about life, humanity, myself. Each time I leave, I leave slightly altered.

Travel opened me to the infinite possibilities of being alive. Shows me that there is no one right way of doing things. It shows me people from every walk of life, and it hands me gratitude, again and again, for the privilege of being able to move through the world when so many can’t. There isn’t a day that passes when I don’t feel grateful for the freedom I have. And yet, during the pandemic, a time when physical travel was not possible for a period of time, breathwork gave me freedom, and exploration, and allowed me to receive all the gifts that travel brings to me.
